Intersegmental Traction

What is Intersegmental Traction
Misaligned joints in the spine can hinder your movement, interrupting fluid circulation around the joints. This fluid circulation is vital for your spinal discs to receive the nutrients they need. The disruption of fluid circulation can eventually lead to thinning discs, which can impact your long-term range of motion.

The roller table helps by creating motion which can stretch the spinal joints and improve movement. It does this by mobilizing the spinal column while simultaneously stretching the muscles and ligaments. The patient lies face up on the table while the rollers beneath the surface gently move up and down the spine.

Why Intersegmental Traction - For some patients, anti-inflammatories, injections, and surgery has not alleviated their severe back pain.  In fact, a study published by researchers Nikolai Bogduk and Gunnar Andersson in 2009 noted that back surgery only resulted in modest pain relief.
Your Spine acts as a portal for nerves that travel to other parts of your body. When issues arise in the form of deteriorating discs or poor alignment, nerves become pinched and irritated, causing severe pain and discomfort.

While you can feel better after one treatment, for best results, spinal decompression is designed to be a cumulative treatment that is part of a longer-term solution that addresses bulging or herniated discs that is causing pain and discomfort.

How to IST Tables Work? - Misaligned or stuck joints in the spine can hinder your movement and lead to pain, the IST table helps by gently mobilizing the stuck or fixated spinal joints. It mobilizes the spinal column positively affecting not only the vertebrae, but also the discs, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. The patient lies face-up on the table, while the rollers gently move up and down the spine. Not only is it painless, but it’s also actually soothing and feels great!

Athletes are not the only ones who can benefit from using an IST table regularly. Those who are regularly active or suffer from a back injury can also use this tool to strengthen and restore the range of motion in the spine

Benefits of Intersegmental Traction (IST)
  • Accelerates recovery from injury.
  • Restores the normal range of motion in the spine.
  • Helps reduce muscle spasms that can be caused by weakened postural muscles or spinal injuries.
  • Helps increase blood flow to your discs, ligaments, and muscles, which can improve balance and strength.
  • The IST table can be adjusted to accommodate a patient’s comfort and can be used with all body types, including children.
