Pain Relief for Arthritis

Picture
According to the CDC, in the United States, 24% of all adults, or 58.5 million people, have arthritis. It is a leading cause of work disability, with annual costs for medical care and lost earnings of $303.5 billion. Don't let the costs eat you alive, schedule an appointment with Vitality Health Center so you can manage that pain.

Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy Treatments Can Help You Live Life Free of Arthritis. Is arthritis limiting you and the things you want to do? – Chiropractic and massage therapy can give you the relief you’ve been looking for. There hasn’t been a lot of research on the benefits of chiropractic manipulation for osteoarthritis. However, a 2020 animal study Trusted Source found some evidence that chiropractic manipulation may help slow down the progression of arthritis by improving the status of cartilage, bone, and the joint capsule.

Are stiff or tight joints making your morning routine unbearable?
Do they ache as you get moving, becoming less painful as the day goes on? If so, this may be a sign of early-onset arthritis. Arthritis is a common condition that so many have experienced but instead of seeking help, choose to live with for far too long. You don’t have to live with painful joints from arthritis, Dr. John T. Toth at Vitality Health Center can help you find relief today.

We will assess what treatments will be best in providing pain relief for your arthritis during routine activities and help you prevent injuring yourself in the future. Our chiropractor will also help you boost your range of motion in painful arthritic joints. If you are suffering from arthritis, or you think you may be experiencing arthritic symptoms, contact Vitality Health Center today to schedule an appointment.

Do you wonder why you’re experiencing arthritis?
As the most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis is usually easy to diagnose. It can be caused by a sudden injury to the joint, or it can develop even if a previous injury has fully healed. For example, let’s say you were a football player in college who suffers a harsh blow to the knee. Your goal is to seek treatment, recover, and eventually get back to playing the game. Even though the injury healed, damage occurred to the cartilage or surrounding muscles, decreasing support to the joint, or changing the motion of the joint slightly. Therefore, it is still possible for you to develop osteoarthritis from it later in life.

If you are overweight, you may also be at a higher risk for developing osteoarthritis, as additional strain is being put on your knees and hip joints.
The same is true for careers that require overuse or repetitive motions. For example, if you are a carpenter who swings a hammer in repetitive motions as a crucial part of your job, you may develop osteoarthritis in the joints of your elbows or hands.

Rheumatoid arthritis is another type of arthritis, although it is not as easily understood. It develops as an autoimmune response, meaning that the immune system sees your joints as a threat and decides to attack them.

Researchers have come to believe that your environment, medical history, and hormones could play major factors in the development of rheumatoid arthritis. Because arthritis is an autoimmune condition, it is common for it to affect the same joints on both sides of your body. The condition is also more prevalent in females than males.

Confused About the Symptoms of arthritis?
According to the Arthritis Foundation, arthritis affects more than 50 million people and as of now it is the leading cause of disability across America. Arthritis causes pain, inflammation, and it can affect one or multiple joints at once.

Chiropractic care is a natural and non-invasive way to address many types of pain. Chiropractors focus on the relationships of the structures of the body and function, and one area where chiropractic care is extremely beneficial in improving the function of an arthritic joint. While the goal of chiropractic care is to restore movement and function, the proper type of adjustment must be matched to the form of arthritis.

For some forms of arthritis, like osteoarthritis that can cause pain in the spine, chiropractic care is typically a safe and effective treatment. However, for arthritic conditions caused by an inflammatory disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, care must be exercised. It is helpful to understand the different types of arthritis when trying to understand what types of arthritis may be helped by chiropractic adjustment.

Rheumatoid arthritis, commonly called RA, is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system attacks the joints. This causes inflammation of the synovium, the tissue that lines the inside of joints. This swelling makes it painful to move the joint. Patients with active swelling from an arthritic condition should use caution as a high-velocity chiropractic adjustment may exacerbate the situation.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease and one of the most common medical conditions, affecting over 25 million Americans. Osteoarthritis is the result of deteriorating cartilage, a protective material that covers the ends of bones and cushions the joints. Osteoarthritis can occur in any joint but is predominantly found in the weight-bearing structures of the spine, hips, and knees. A visit to your family chiropractor for treatment for joint dysfunction, especially in the spine, can relieve the pressure and mobilize the joints to decrease the pain. A less forceful type of manipulation, commonly called “traction,” may also be used. Here the gentle and steady stretching force is applied to the affected area.

Live a pain-free/reduced pain life with the help of chiropractic.
If you’re looking for a non-medication way to take the edge off of those painful joints, chiropractic medicine may be for you, as long as you remember to listen to your body. Most of what chiropractors do today is gentler than cracking backs or popping necks into place. In fact, there are more than 150 techniques that chiropractors use to manually adjust the spine, joints and muscles with varying degrees of force.

Our chiropractor conducts a physical evaluation to determine what is the best course of treatment for you. If you are suffering from arthritic pain, there is so much you can gain from our services. Our patients are often able to avoid injections, medications, and surgery entirely.
Chiropractic helps by restoring the normal motion of your joints, and improving the way you walk, run, bend, move, while also improving the strength of supporting muscles.

Our treatments are tailored to your specific needs to help you recover as quickly as possible and have an outcome that’s much more permanent. We’ll also teach you methods to avoid future joint injury including things you can do on your own with the right therapeutic exercises.
If you are dealing with arthritic symptoms and you are looking to find long-lasting relief, call to make an appointment with Vitality Health Center now.

Forms of treatment include:
Joint Dysfunction, especially in the spine, can relieve the pressure and mobilize the joints to decrease the pain.
Traction - A less forceful type of manipulation, commonly called “traction,” may also be used. Here the gentle and steady stretching force is applied to the affected area.
Ultrasound: When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves produce a gentle massaging effect that can aid in reducing swelling, stiffness, and pain.
Electrotherapy: Tiny, painless electric pulses are used to stimulate muscles and nerve fibers.
Low-Level Laser: Also called “cold laser,” a non-heat producing laser penetrates deep into the tissue to reduce inflammation.
